Shoes!

I really should have expected this, since our back-to-school shopping came together rather well and rather quickly. Last week, just a couple of days before the first day of school, Logan announced that his tennis shoes were too tight.

I really thought he was just messing around, but sure enough, his toes were at the ends of his size 13 Wal-Mart $5 Starters. Grrr. We had just bought them at the beginning of June! These were not going to be his school shoes, I had a different pair of size 13s in his closet. We tried those on, and of course his toes were at the end too. Double grr.

We headed out to get some new shoes, attempting to shop in our own town. FAIL. Abosolutely nothing in two shoes stores and Sears. The lady at Sears measured him at a 12 (?), said he was a little wide, and then proceeded to tell me that they did not have any wide shoes. Super.

We came back home defeated. Then I remembered he had a pair of 13.5s in his closet. Then I remembered that he would be starting soccer, which made me think, "Oh crap....his cleats." His cleats fit NOW, but once he has on his soccer socks, I think they will be way too tight. They aren't very wide to begin with. I didn't want him to have just the one pair of shoes, especially with school.

The next day we headed up to Rockome Gardens, and got an early enough start to go up to the Outlet Mall first. Since I have heard good things about Sketchers (or however you properly spell it), we went to that store first. Most of the styles have the single Velcro strap, and for some reason, those just do not fit Logan well. Most of them light up, and I wasn't certain if Logan's school had a policy regarding light-up shoes. And, since the staff never offered to help us at all, we left.

We went on down to Famous Footwear. The salesperson quickly met us at the door and I promptly asked to have Logan measured. She measured him at around a 13.5, and felt where his toes were in the shoes he had on. She also measured him a tad wide. When she asked if we had anything in mind, I just told her something that maybe ran a little on the wider side, since Wide shoes for kids seem hard to come by. She took us to his section and right to the Nikes. We tried on a size 1, just in case, and they were way too big. And the style was black with red trim...not a good look with Logan's uniforms :o) I asked if they had something a little less flashy, and she found us two pairs of Nikes. They both fit Logan great, so I let him pick the ones he liked best. They are kind of a greyish silver and have a little bit of black. He was happy, and I will be happy if his feet can stay in them for awhile....that price almost gave me a heartattack :o)
