Despite my careful planning, it was a bit chaotic. The night before, Logan was supposed to have had a kindergarten open house. However, it was cancelled because the school lost power during the awful storm. So...that left a lot of questions up in the air: I didn't know if lunch was being served, or if he needed to bring his lunch. I didn't know if we would be able to take him to his classroom (students meet in the gym first thing in the morning). But, we made the best of it and I packed his firetruck lunchbox just in case.
Logan was sooo excited! We were both up and dressed by 7 a.m. (this will not last) and he was even eager for the first day of school pictures. Thanks to Pinterest, I found this awesome chalkboard idea, so I got some good pictures of him with that. The best picture was in front of our fallen tree! Oh well. I take what I can get. He wore his backpack around the house for a good half hour, and kept insisting that he was going to college, not kindergarten.
We loaded up and headed to the school. Even Matt came along, since he had taken the night off to deal with our storm damage. We got to the school, walked into the gym, and saw the principal and preschool teacher. Seeing Miss Tracy I think really helped Logan. Then we took his supplies to his classroom. Miss Chris recognized him right away. He found his seat, complete with a nametag and a neat little bag that fits on the back of the chair for supplies, and then followed the student teacher out into the hall to put his backpack and lunchbox away. Strangly enough, their stuff is on the floor, not on hooks. I'm a little confused by this because at the spring open house his teacher said they were going to put their things in a closet. Not a big problem at the moment, but I'm not looking forward to his coat being on the floor!
Then, he went back into the gym and sat with his class, and we said our good-byes. We made it quick, and he didn't even ask where we were going!
When I picked him up, he didn't give me a lot of info on how the day went. He's not big on talking right afterwards. I still don't have a lot of details. His lunchbox was hilarious: he brought home all his leftover foot (partially eaten or not), with the exception of his lunchbox. Some friends told me today that some schools do not allow kids to throw away any of the food, so that the parents can see how well they ate. I also thought maybe Logan didn't throw stuff away because we generally use a lot of reusable containers, but due to our power outage when I was packing his lunch, I didn't feel like rummaging thru dark cabinets :o)
I'm sure you are all wondering how I did, and I am happy to say that I was fine. I actually cried more leading up to the days before he went to preschool. Granted, I've shed more than enough tears in preparation for kindergarten, but yesterday I was fine. A few tears but not quite the waterworks that several were expecting. I think Monday will be a lot harder since he will be gone all day. I will be lost. This is a BIG change for this stay-at-home mom, and my plans at this point are uncertain. It's a strange feeling and I am not sure how to describe it at all. A part-time job would be great, if flexible. I don't know...I guess I know I will know the right opportunity when I see it. Until then, I have a lot of house projects that need to be tackled, mainly organizing and cleaning each room top to bottom, maybe some painting, definately some purging.
