Where Did July Go?

I cann't believe it is the last day of July. It seems like we just ended June, and yet here we are starting our back-to-school shopping.

I'm a bit bummed that July is at its end. I'm not quite ready (most days) to send Logan on into Kindergarten. I feel like this summer, especially July, just flew by. I was thinking the other night that Logan and I did not really do anything over the past month, mainly because it was too dang hot to do anything! I even went back and looked through my pictures. Nope. Nothing exciting at all. Which proves my point that we have indeed watched waaaay too much television this summer!

A Day at the Movies

Today I had a date with Logan at the movies. We went to see "Brave." Today's adventure just seemed to be extra special. Maybe it's because school starts SOON, and I know these Mommy/Logan times are not going to be as frequent. I'm not going to lie, those moments when he crawled up on my lap, or snuggled extra close made me tear up a bit.

We got to the theater with enough time to buy our snacks. Tuesday's are a good day to go: the show is cheaper, and now with every purchase at the concession stand, you get a free popcorn...so, if you bought a bag of M&M's and a soda, you could get two small popcorns! Anywho...we got our food and headed off to find our seats.

Let me say, it was a good day for previews. Logan was absolutely glued to "The Hobbit." He laughed at "Hotel Transylvania."  When he heard Marlin and Dory talking for the preview of "Finding Nemo 3d," he turned to me and said, "What the heck?!?!" He couldn't wipe the smile off his face during that one. He LOVES Nemo so much that I may have to break my no 3d movies streek..

We both really liked "Brave." It's a good story, good soundtrack (may have to purchase), and just the right amount of adult humor to make it entertaining for the parents. The bear scenes were a bit intense, and Logan covered his ears a lot during these times. He also danced a lot to the soundtrack, which was pretty entertaining itself.

When we got to the parking lot, we noticed that some of the cars had water on them, some did not. I thought that was kind of odd, since the parking lot itself appeared pretty dry. However, it was stormy looking to the south, so I thought maybe, just maybe, rain was on the way. We went to Aldis (or Yadis, according to Logan) to get some groceries (and a bean bag chair!) and, of course, since we cracked the van's windows, it POURED.  When we got home...NO RAIN AT ALL! Oh well, it was good while it lasted.

T-Ball Wrap Up

This weekend was Logan's last t-ball game. While his games are pretty fun to watch, I'm kind of glad for this season to be over. I'm ready to have my Saturdays back, especially with this 100 degree weather we have had.

This season was better than our first season. Logan grasped the concept more. He didn't hesitate (as much) when he would run, although he is not fast by any means. He did manage to get on base a few times.  He hit the ball a little farther and didn't take quite as long to bat. His outfielding could use a little work ;o) He wants nothing to do with getting the ball, throwing it, getting someone out. He just sort of stands there, and if a bunch of kids take off running, he might follow, but I'm not sure he knows why he's running.

We had one minor injury. He and another kid ran into each other and they both fell down. Logan skinned his knees up pretty good. One of the kids on his team put his arm around him and took him to the coach...awwww. It required getting some band-aids in the dugout and a fair amount of whining afterwards, but within a few days they were pretty much healed.

My main complaint with this season was the lack of practices. They had two practices, (would have been 3, but believe it or not, there was actually rain!), a game, and then no more practices! I'm not sure what was up with that, they practiced one night a week last season, for the entire season. But, for a team that didn't practice much, they did really well!

After the last game, which was cut short by one inning due to heat, the kids got their trophies. They were all so excited!

First Trip to the Dentist!

This week we checked off another item on our kindergarten to do list: the dentist visit.

I'm not going to lie...I was totally dreading this appointment. Not because I was worried about Logan's teeth, I was worried about how he would act. It's only been within the past year that he has become a good patient, but the dentist would be a totally new setting. Even adults hate the dentist!

My plan was to prepare him as much as possible, mainly by reading whatever stories we could get our hands on about trips to the dentist. But, when I called to schedule the appointment and found out they could get us in that day, well, we only got one story in. The story we read was from Usborne's Book of First Experiences: Going to the Dentist.

When we got to the dentist, Matt's cousin Joni, called Logan back to start the exam. I was really happy Joni was working that day.  She was awesome with him.  She talked him through everything, answered his questions, let him pick his toothpaste, all kinds of fun stuff. I was pretty proud of my guy! And the best part: no cavities! And boy, did this kid rake in the goodies for being so good. He got a new Lightning McQueen toothbrush, toothpaste, a little flosser, a tiny truck, a balloon, and a coupon for a free pizza!

Happy 4th of July!

We had a great 4th of July. We headed down to Pana for a cook-out at Matt's grandparent's house. We took our annual picture by the monkey tree. Sadly, the monkey tree is 1) dying and 2) casting too many shadows, so we moved to "the shed." I think the shed will be our new place. This is the first year since Logan has been around that we did not purchase Old Navy flag shirts. Even though they are only $5, I am tired of spending money on a shirt that he really only wears a couple of times a year. So...I went with something he will hopefully wear more often.

While we were on our way to Pana, Stephanie texted me and said she was going to bring the sprinkler. Of course, she caught us as we were driving, but since we had to stop at Wal-Mart anyway, we picked up some swim trunks for Logan. Four dollars on clearance....I can handle that ;o) Unfortunately they were so long I think he will be able to wear them until he is 10.

It was hot enough that even the adults went thru the sprinkler a few times. The kids had a blast taking us thru it.

After a quick visit at my parents house, we headed home. Logan did not want to see fireworks this year, and Matt and I did not want to sit in the heat, fight traffic, or deal with weirdos, we spent the night in the house watching tv. Enough people were setting off fireworks that we could see a few from either porch. Logan and I ended the night by watching the Macy's 4th of July fireworks on NBC. Now THAT is what I call a good firework show!
