Logan Loses a Tooth

***Warning-do not read with children***

Big news at our house last week: Logan lost his first tooth!
I had been dreading this day since the very first tooth (which was the one he lost) came in. The losing teeth business was not my favorite part of childhood. There was nothing traumatic that happened, it was just gross and I didn't like it. And that whole Tooth Fairy thing? So not a fan. I'm not sure how old I was when I started getting creeped out by the concept of someone coming into my bedroom while I was asleep and taking a tooth that I had lost. Even money wasn't a selling factor on this. I mean, really, it must be a big-time weirdo who collects teeth. In fact, I was so anti Tooth Fairy that I had no intention on even doing it. But, alas, I did, in a hopefully slightly less creepy way. And I really have to keep from rolling my eyes when Logan talks about it. Ugh.

Anyway, back to the loose tooth. It was loose for about a week. One day I noticed Logan just kept messing with his mouth. I told him repeatedly to stop. Finally I caught him looking in the mirror of our curio cabinet. That's when he told me the tooth was loose. What did I do? I didn't believe him. I had to see for myself. Sure enough, it was loose. I was ready to run upstairs and curl up in the fetal position and cry. I'll be totally honest here and say that I don't find the whole toothless or giant crooked adult teeth next to tiny baby teeth thing cute. I just don't. So there. I did the only thing I knew to do was take as many pictures of Logan before his smile changed forever. Unfortunately, the kid can give a toothy smile without looking like he's off to kill Batman. But I did get some nice pictures of him in the process.

Tooth is out!
I swore I was not going to be the one to pull teeth. Either Logan could do it himself, or Matt could do it. Turns out Matt was a bigger wimp than me and I am certain he didn't touch the wiggly tooth once. Logan, however, did a great job of just wiggling it. He really did a great job with the whole process. When I asked him how he felt about having a loose tooth, he said that he was excited but a little scared. He was really worried about bleeding.  He wiggled it to the point of it hanging. That's when I wiggled it, got a tissue, barely pulled, and it came out. He totally didn't even realize I had it out until I showed him. Then I got him into the bathroom so he could rinse out his mouth. Lucky for us there wasn't much blood involved (maybe because it was barely hanging).

New smile
After the tooth was pulled, I gave him his special tooth pillow. When I decided (months ago) how I wanted to handle the whole Tooth Fairy thing, I decided on a smaller pillow that could be hung on a door knob. I for one did not want to risk 1) waking a sleeping child or 2) breaking my neck.
Sweet tooth pillow (the hanging ribbon is at the top).

Logan was pretty excited when he saw what the fairy (who he said is a boy, by the way) left him: a dollar bill and a new lightsaber toothbrush.  It's been a week now and I am slowly adjusting to Logan's new look. The new tooth is starting to pop in (as are a couple molars). All in all, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be!

Goodies!
